Thank you so much for viewing the website of Notre Dame School of Manhattan. We are a small, private, Catholic, college prep high school for young women with a unique identity. At Notre Dame, we live the educational mission of Anne de Xainctonge who founded the Sisters of St. Ursula in 1606, in Dole, France. Very much ahead of her time, Anne wished to educate girls as the Jesuits educate boys. Today, we are a recognized by the Jesuits as part of the Ignatian Family and, we are fully accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) When you choose Notre Dame, you choose a school that is grounded in strong tradition and is also very much at the forefront of education for young women in New York City today.
Our Ignatian education takes place both in and out of the classroom. It is evident in our graduate profile which outlines clear goals for our students’ experience and growth in scholarship, faith and values, service and leadership, community and diversity. Our Greenwich Village location allows us to use New York City as our classroom with all its rich cultural, scientific, political, and historical resources. We also offer the opportunity for international travel to students, this year with our trip to Italy. We are a small, nurturing school with a wide, global vision.
Notre Dame School has recently joined the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ncgs). The organization, through extensive research, affirms Notre Dame’s belief that girls’ schools create a culture of achievement in which academic progress is of great importance, and the discovery and development of a girls’ individual potential is paramount. The Case for Single-Sex Schools showed that single-sex schools for females provide greater opportunity for educational attainment as measured by standardized cognitive tests, curriculum and course placement, leadership behavior, number of years of formal education, and occupational achievement.
At Notre Dame School, we have seen these ideas come to fruition in the excellent high school experience of our students and in their college application results.
Let me share some proud highlights of our most recent graduates with you. One hundred per cent of our 82 graduates of the Class of 2017 are attending four-year colleges and universities which include Brown, Princeton, Middlebury, NYU, and Vassar. Over 90% of our graduates won academic scholarships to college. The total academic scholarship amount won is over $23 million per year.
Our wonderful students’ graduation results happen because of our everyday focus on excellence at Chez Nous over their four years with us. Our students enjoy their rigorous Regents, Honors and AP classes, select their favorite co-curricular activities and sports and participate in leadership activities within and outside of Notre Dame. By embracing the uniqueness of each student, we are able to provide a high quality, Catholic, college- prep education that instills confidence, promotes academic excellence and creates effective strategies for our students so that they continue to excel in the college of their choice and make a positive difference in the world.
