In keeping with the “family spirit” of Notre Dame, the emphasis of all school counseling services is on the healthy development of each student—academically, emotionally, and socially. This is done, in part, by establishing an environment of closeness and trust among students, school counselors, faculty, and administration. In this way all members of the school community provide help, understanding, and support to the student.
The Director of School Counseling administers the entire program. The program includes: group guidance classes, personal counseling, academic counseling, career counseling and college advisement.
- Group counseling classes address the following topics: adjustment to high school, study skills, career choices, college selection and financial aid, healthy relationships, bullying, and self-esteem. In the 11th grade, group classes focus on the college essay, college selection and majors. In the 12th grade, group classes focus on the basics of college applications and financial aid.
- Academic and personal counseling is available to all students by appointment.
- Notre Dame School reserves the right to refer students to outside counselors when deemed necessary by the school counseling department. In certain cases, such referrals may be required in order for the student to continue at Notre Dame School.
- Parent conferences are also part of the school counseling program. Either the school or the parent can initiate these conferences.
- We have a special counseling website as a resource for our students. On our website, students can learn all about applying to college, including links to important steps of the application process, applying for scholarships, and registering for standardized tests. Students will also find other great resources from the counseling office, including information about internships and after-school programs.
